The Glenn Miller Festival is sponsored by the International Glenn Miller Birthplace Society, headquartered in Clarinda, Iowa.  Glenn Miller is probably  the best-known bandleader of the Big-Band era.  His music continues to be popular all around the world, even though it has been 62 years since his disappearance.  Glenn Miller was born in Clarinda on March 1, 1904, and he disappeared while serving his country on Dec. 15, 1944, during WWII.  In his short life, he made many contributions to the world.  His civilian band was the number one band in the country during the height of the Big Band era.  And, during the war he volunteered to give up his civilian band to serve his country, and formed the Glenn Miller AAF Band of which General James H. Doolite said, "Next to a letter from home, Captain Miller, your organization is the greatest morale builder in the European Theatre of Operations."
